Biography
Janice M. Brown has more than 18 years of professional experience in etiology, prevention, and early intervention research on substance use and abuse issues. Her research has focused primarily on young adult populations (ages 18 to 25) and has included such issues as transitions to college life, alcohol use epidemiology, alcohol use in high-risk situations, self-regulation, and gender differences. Dr. Brown's work with young adult military populations has examined the role of stress in workplace functioning, the use of alcohol and risks associated with heavy drinking, and alcohol reduction interventions. Dr. Brown is the author of numerous articles, chapters, and technical reports on alcohol use issues. Her federally funded research has included projects offering brief motivational interventions to alcohol-abusing U.S. Air Force personnel and to freshmen college students, military epidemiological studies, and web-based intervention studies.
