Biography

• Since 1991 Chair of Department and Clinic of Psychiatry at Wroclaw Medical University, and head physician in charge of the 2nd Clinical Ward at Lower Silesian Center for Mental Health (DCZP)and day-care wards and outpatient's clinic at Independent Public Clinical Hospital (SPSK). • Consultant psychiatrist and epidemiologist. • Attended research internship programs at: Psychiatric University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland (1978), University of Trieste, Italy (1993) and University of Odense, Denmark (1993) • Member of The World Mental Health Survey Initiative (WMH), Polish Psychiatric Association and Polish Old Age Psychiatry Association (PTPG), Vice-President of the European Association of Geriatric Psychiatry (EAGP)(2003-2007). • Editor in chief and publisher of Psychogeriatria Polska [Polish Old Age Psychiatry], member of editorial boards of numerous medical magazines, founder and chairman of the Foundation of Mental Health (FOZP). • Author of more than 350 articles in the field of psychopharmacology, social psychiatry, epidemiology, pharmacoeconomics and history of psychiatry, including many publications with the international scope • Investigator and coordinator in research on clinical psychopharmacology and scientific projects financed by the European Union and The State Committee for Scientific Research (KBN): Evaluation of effectiveness and costs of treatment in daycare psychiatric wards in comparison with in-patient wards in various European health care systems (EDEN - 5PRUE) ( 2001-2003 ); Adaptation of CIDI (Composite International Diagnostic Interview) questionnaire for epidemiologic research in the territory of Poland (6 PO5B 00921) (2001 - 2003); European Evaluation of Coercion in Psychiatry and Harmonization of Best Clinic Practice (EUNOMIA - 5PRUE) (2002-2005); Treatment of patients with mental disorders in the European Prison System (EUPRIS - PRUE) (2005-2006); MHEEN - Mental Health European Economics Network - Phase 2: Expansion and Further Development. (2005 - 2007); European Cooperation on Dementia (EuroCoDe) (2006-2008); Development of a European Measure of Best Practice for People with Long Term Mental Illness in Institutional Care. DEMoB.inc. (2007-2009); Epidemiology of mental disorders and access to psychiatric care facilities in Poland (EZOP - financed within the framework of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism) • Andrzej Kiejna has supervised 20 doctoral theses and 5 habilitation dissertations. Under his directorship two persons were awarded the title of professor. • Professor Kiejna is the author of the concept and organizer of the modern educational, clinical and research facilities of the Chair of Psychiatry located at Wybrzeże L. Pasteura 10. • Clinician, lecturer and scientist recognized in Poland and abroad.
